PTK

Photo Therapeutic Keratectomy (PTK)

PTK is used to treat corneal surface diseases and shallow corneal scars.

The epithelium, a layer of cells covering the cornea, is gently removed and the laser is applied to the corneal surface.

While the objective of PRK is to reduce dependency upon eyeglasses or contact lenses, PTK's goal is to produce a smoother and clearer cornea through "polishing" the cornea.

After a thorough eye exam, you and your doctor will determine if PTK is an option for you.

PTK can sometimes be combined with PRK if a refractive error is also present.
